Our Purpose

In accordance with Matthew 28:18-20, the mission of Greenville Baptist Church is to actively reach the world with the gospel message encouraging people to become followers of Jesus Christ who love God and love others.

Our Beliefs

Greenville Baptist Church is a Southern Baptist congregation committed to the truth of God's word, and a member of the Baptist Convention of New England.

We believe the Bible is the inspired Word of God and is the sole standard and authority for the church in all matters of doctrine. (2 Timothy 3:16)

We believe in one God existing in three persons: God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit. (Matthew 28:19-20)

We believe that God created the heavens and the earth through His son Jesus Christ. (Genesis 1:1, John 1:1-3)

We believe that all men have a sinful nature and fall short of the glory of God. (Romans 3:23)

We believe that Jesus Christ was born of a virgin, fully God and fully man.  As a man, Christ was subject to temptation and suffering, yet as God, He lived without sin. (Matthew 1:18; Hebrews 4:15)

We believe that Jesus Christ willingly died on the cross as an atoning sacrifice and was raised on the third day. (Rom. 3:25, 1 Corinthians 15:3-4)

We believe in salvation by grace.  The only way that we may come to the Father is to acknowledge that Jesus Christ died for our sins.  We believe that God redeems us and forgives all sins. (John 3:16)

We believe that the Holy Spirit came for man at Pentecost (Acts 2:1-4).  Upon receiving Jesus Christ as our savior, the Holy Spirit indwells us. (Romans 8:9-11)

We believe in baptism by immersion, accompanied by public testimony, as a demonstration of faith. (Matthew 3:5-6; 16-17)

We believe in the resurrection of a spiritual body and eternal life for those who have received Jesus Christ.  We acknowledge the reality of heaven and hell. (1 Corinthians 15; Luke 16:19-31

Our Covenant

As members of Greenville Baptist Church, we strive to be faithful and obedient to commands that God has outlined in the scriptures.  We are the light of the world and the salt of the earth, and we will live in a manner that draws people to a personal relationship with Jesus Christ.  (2 John 6)

We will not forsake assembling together, but will uphold the public worship of the Lord.  (Hebrews 10:25)

We will exercise Christian care and watchfulness, and will faithfully warn, exhort, and admonish each other as the occasion may require.  (Colossians 3:16)

We will not omit devotions at home, nor neglect the duty of instructing our children and those under our care in the knowledge and service of Jesus Christ.  (Proverbs 22:6)

We will cheerfully contribute our property, time and talents, as God has given us, for support of the poor, orphans, and widows, as well as evangelical ministry.  (Malachi 3:10)

We will honor the sanctity of life.  We will not support any individual or organization whose purpose is to promote or administer abortion or euthanasia.   (Exodus 20:13)

We will honor the sanctity of marriage.  Marriage is ordained for a man and a woman, and any couple entering into marriage will undergo pre-marital counseling by a pastor of the church.  Same-sex marriages and civil unions will not be performed on church property, nor will a pastor of the church perform any such ceremony.  (Romans 1:24-32)
